From Vientiane we receive the sad news that Prof. Dr. med. Bouavanh Sensathit has died after a long and serious illness among his family.
Professor Bouavanh was the medical director of the Mother and Child Hospital for many years and an important representative in the medical faculty as well as in the Laotian health system. As such he was our most important contact person in Laos. It is thanks to him that after Dr. Urs Lauper’s first visit to Laos in 1999, a long-term cooperation between Swiss doctors and various Laotian hospitals was established. Not only many children, but also the Swiss Laos Hospital Project was brought into the world thanks to his work.
Professor Bouavanh was an extraordinary personality: a fighter and a leader who was able to turn his visions into reality, often in collaboration with the Swiss Laos Hospital Project. He always surprised with his directness, his hospitality and his generosity. He loved his family, his profession and was always available for his staff and patients through his presence in the hospital. He was a great role model.
