Missions in Laos
Working as a volunteer in a Laotian hospital
We welcome enquiries from doctors, midwives, nurses, medical technicians and other healthcare professionals who are interested in volunteering in Laos for the Swiss Laos Hospital Project.
There is a particular need for volunteers who are willing to commit to the Swiss Laos Hospital Project on a long-term basis, i.e. who are able to participate in a mission of several weeks every one to two years. Experience has shown that, for one-off missions, the effort required is disproportionate to the benefits gained, and they are also less rewarding for the volunteers themselves. Furthermore, such missions must be planned well in advance (at least six months ahead).
Our project generally does not have a need for volunteers without a completed professional education in the healthcare sector. Bachelors of Medicine have the opportunity to undertake a one-month internship at the Mother and Newborn Hospital in Vientiane as part of their elective year.
